Jane Eyre :: essays papers
Jane Eyre Charlotte Bronteââ¬â¢s Jane Eyre, is the story of Jane, an orphan girl with a harsh upbringing. During a time when women were condemned for learning more than custom pronounced necessary, Jane becomes educated intellectually, socially, and spiritually. In the course of growing up she travels to many places as she battles to learn more about herself and about the world. In the following paragraphs youââ¬â¢ll see how Bronte establishes that money and power do not make a person. Mrs. Reed, Mr. Rochester, and Mr. Brocklehurst all reflect this, they are not nice or perfectly content people. She demonstrates that general education is more important than wealth. The story begins at the Reedââ¬â¢s residence at Gateshead Hall. Jane is excluded from the Reedââ¬â¢s activities so she tries to educate herself by reading books. Soon enough though, John Reed finds her, takes away the book and strikes her with it. ââ¬Å"You are like a slave-driverâ⬠(Bronte: 43), cries Jane. In this passage Jane compares John with a slave-driver because like one, John deprives her of her endeavor to educate herself and keeps her suppressed. In the boarding school for orphaned girls called Lowood, Jane sees that movement towards progress and knowledge is retained. Mr. Brocklehurst, the director of Lowood, wants the girls to ââ¬Å"clothe themselves with shamefacedness and sobriety, not with braided hair and costly apparelâ⬠(Bronte: 96). So he doesnââ¬â¢t allow for girls to be dressed neatly or with curls in their hair because to him thatââ¬â¢s a sin of showing off. His goal it seems is not to truly educate this girls for their own improveme nt, but merely to educate them to serve the wealthy. In spite of many hardships, Jane manages to graduate and becomes a governess under Mr. Rochesterââ¬â¢s employment. Mr. Brocklehurstââ¬â¢s influence on Jane to be plain, to be an underclass to serve becomes more apparent when Jane thinks, ââ¬Å"is it likely he (Mr. Rochester) would waste a serious thought on this indigent and insignificant plebeian?â⬠(Bronte: 191). Having no money or a house of her own, she considers herself inferior and unlikely that Mr. Rochester, being a man of power and class, would ever lay eyes on her. When Jane leaves Thornfield after she finds out that Mr. Rochester is married, she decides that itââ¬â¢s better to be a schoolmistress, honest and free, than to stay and become a slave full of remorse and shame.

How Poets in Quickdraw Explore Ideas
English literature poetry and comparison links/task The manhunt ââ¬ËThe manhuntââ¬â¢ is about an injured soldierââ¬â¢s wife who is describing her experience witnessing her husbandââ¬â¢s fatal injuries. It is a positive relationship because the wife is feeling the pain of the husband. The poem which has comparisons is ââ¬ËIn Paris with youââ¬â¢ the theme is common in both, of the darker side of love.The author of manhunt chooses to explore this through the idea of a man returning to his wife, after a war, and therefore is a more emotive poem, whilst the author of In Paris with you writes of a weekend in Paris, in which one tries desperately not to fall in love with the unnamed person.They are both written in first person in ââ¬Ëthe manhuntââ¬â¢ the wife is sharing her experience directly about her husband to the reader and similarly ââ¬ËIn Paris with youââ¬â¢ the narrator is addressing the reader about her/his broken relationship and the only difference b etween the two poems is that the relationship ââ¬Ëin Paris with youââ¬â¢ is negative and she/he is not in love with their lover and explaining their relationships. Furthermore they are both monologue poems where the writer creates an illusion of a voice and is biased because we only hear one side of the story both characters in both poems are not addressing their point of view.The hour Hourà is about the feelings that arise from spending time with a loved one. The poem suggests that to be with a loved one, even for just an hour, is precious and valuable. The relationship in the poem is positive. Hour follows the structure of a Shakespearian sonnet. Hourà has many references to money and riches, contrasting the concept of material wealth and possessions against love and time spent with a loved one. Hour is similar to the ghazal because they both talk about love and separation and are both positive relationships. Quickdraw Quickdrawà is aà one-sided relationship.The spea ker of the poem is waiting for contact from her lover. The context of the relationship is unclear, and we do not know if the speaker welcomes contact or not. Quickdraw is a poem which shows and demonstrates the highs and lows of relshonships it is a negative relationship because the speaker is talking to her lover she is wounded by the texts sheââ¬â¢s received. The lexical field of fighting is in this poem which makes it a bad relshonship. Ellipses are also used throughout the poem maybe to show expression. Sister Maudeà also presents the idea ofà conflict and violence in a relationshipà but between sisters rather than lovers.Ghazal Ghazalà is a love poem in which a speaker seeks to secure the love and attention of another. The poem is made up of a sequence of two-line stanzas Ghazal is similar to hour because it has the commen theme of love and serperation running through the poem. The poem is a positive relationship because the woman is incomplete without him. Brothers Brothers is a poem about two brothers where a void is created. The opening metaphor sets the tone for the relationship between the two brothersà ââ¬Å"Saddledâ⬠à suggests the negative feelingsà the speaker has for his brother.The relationships in the poem is negative Brothersà explores theà relationship between siblingsà and the way in which time separates them. There is affection between the brothers, particularly in the adoration of the younger boy. Inà Sister Maudeà a much more destructive relationship between siblings is presented. Likeà Brothers, this poem hints at the way in which the move towards age brings a distance between siblings. Praise Song for my mother Praise song for my mother is a poem about a mother and her child and the deep love and affection they have for one another the relationship in the poem is positive . he poem is linked to nettles because it has similar theme running through which is love for children and vice versa. Harmonium Har monium is about a son talking positively about his dad . The narrator (the son) needs the help of his father to carry the instrument away from the church the relationship is positive and a harmonium is a musical instrument. Nettlesà are a poem about the relationship between father and son, although from the perspective of the father rather than the son praise song for my mother is another poem about children from the perspective of mother this time.Sonnet 116 Sonnet 116 is a poem about what love is and what it actually means and represents. The relationship is positive it says love is everlasting and the narrator is very confident about his views on love. A poem which is linked to sonnet 116 is To His Coy Mistressà explores the idea of time and its effect on love, although it suggests that death will bring an end unlikeà Sonnet 116, which suggests thatà love is greater than death. Sonnet 43Sonnet 43 is about love as being all powerful positive and life changing force the rel ationships in the poem is positive. The poem which links with sonnet 43 is withà Hourà ââ¬â both present love as aà positive and powerful force. To his coy mistress To his coy mistress means to his shy mistress. The poem is about a shy mistress and her partner who wants her to be in bed with. The poem which links to his coy mistress is Hour because itââ¬â¢s about how precious time is to lovers, and presents the idea that time is a force which is against lovers. The farmerââ¬â¢s brideThe farmerââ¬â¢s bride is about a relshonship between a farmer and his bride it is written in first person the poem which shares links to the farmers bride is to his coy mistress because they are both about their relationships with their spouses. Sister Maude Sister Maudeà explores the destructiveness of jealousy and the darker side of sisterhood. There is a suggestion that Maude's betrayal was unnatural andà ââ¬Å"un-sisterlyâ⬠. The relshonship in the poem is negative a poem which is similar to Sister Maude is brothers because it is also about siblings whereas in that poem it is about age and how it can disrupt relationships between brothers . NettlesNettles is a poem about a parent and a child whose child has been caught in nettles and suffered injuries a poem which links to nettles is praise song for my mother because it is also about a very caring parent and how they feel towards their offspring. itââ¬â¢s a positive relationship. Born yesterday Born yesterday is about a narrator whose writing about her friends child coming into the world and describing the baby a poem which is similar is Hour, likeà Born Yesterdayà is a poem about finding pleasure in ordinary, everyday experiences, rather than chasing the impossible and facing disappointment. The relshonship is positive Mohammed sidat

Learning Basic Japanese Language Through Mobile Audio Learning Essay
Nowadays, education is not just all about writing in the blackboard and explaining afterwards, it needs to capture the enthusiasm of the students to be able to learn. Learning may be done in many ways, like seeing, hearing, and experiencing things first hand. Students are fun of reading books, watching and some are interested in grammar especially in learning foreign languages. ( http://homeworktips. about. com/od/homeworkhelp/a/learningstyle. tm) Learning foreign languages such as Japanese has become a trend because people travel a lot and go abroad to earn money or simply want to visit another country and learn something about its geography and culture and even watching movies, animes, reading books. The researcherââ¬â¢s choose the Japanese language to be used in the development of this research because considering that Japan is one of the leading countries in terms of technology efficiency and learning, their culture may have a big impact to be able to understand more and cope up with them, Considering also the possibility of increasing high paying jobs in Japan by big companies. Firms nowadays are deciding to cooperate with partners from other countries. These firms need good translators who will help them to communicate with their partners. As you can see, you need to learn another language to get a good job. This knowledge can help you in your life. Learning multiple languages will always serve to enhance your quality of life, and even if you never use that language in practical circumstances, you almost certainly will enjoy the time spent educating yourself. Language learning is unique in that you rarely have to spend much money to find a passionate instructor or fellow learner, and the adventure of understanding a new tongue is one experience you will not soon forget. (http://learn-german-review. toptenreviews. com/the-importance-of-learning-foreign-languages. html) Audio recordings use native speakers, and oneââ¬â¢s strength is helping learners improve their accent. Some recordings have pauses for the learner to speak. Others are continuous so the learner speaks along with the recorded voice, similar to learning a song. Audio recordings for self-study use many of the methods used in classroom teaching, and have been produced on records, tapes, CDs, DVDs and websites. Most audio recordings teach words in the target language by using explanations in the learnerââ¬â¢s own language. An alternative is to use sound effects to show meaning of words in the target language. The only language in such recordings is the target language, and they are comprehensible regardless of the learnerââ¬â¢s native language. ( http://en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Language_eduation) One of the biggest advantages to listening to lots of Japanese, userââ¬â¢s actually learn how to speak it is getting nice and familiar with how Japanese should sound. User get a much better handle for pronunciation, accent, and tone than if users just went into it without any prior listening experience. Whether users realize it or not, their brain is subconsciously paying attention to how Japanese sounds. This makes it much easier for you to reproduce these sounds correctly when the time comes. Well, usually at least. This really helps out, especially by keeping from getting into any bad pronunciation habits. If users already know how it should sound, theyââ¬â¢ll be much less likely to get used to pronouncing things incorrectly or ingraining users personal Japanese with a bad accent. ( http://www. tofugu. com/2012/07/02/how-to-learn-japanese-without-really-doing-anything/) A twist in learning such as visual learning, audio learning, in this generation, contributes a big impact as a learning aid. Over the past few decades, the use of audio as a format has great breadth and depth learning tool has been very efficient. Audio as a means there is great potential for its use in education. The diversity of activity that takes advantage of audio hasnââ¬â¢t changed much in many years. However in recent years there has been new exploration into ââ¬Ëdigitalââ¬â¢ uses for audio, which were anticipating taking advantage of the potential that is unique to digital audio. The widespread popularity of audio is due, in the main, to its ubiquity in our culture and ease of use both from a listenerââ¬â¢s perspective and more recently in the creation of audio. The tools have gotten easier to use and better documentation has lowered the entry barrier. Furthermore, affordable recording devices are readily available, particularly with most mobile phones now are able to record audio to an acceptable standard, giving the majority of people the means to create and use audio. ( http://www. jiscdigitalmedia. ac. uk/guide/using-audio-in-teaching-and-learning/ ) Traditionally, academic libraries provide us an access to the different text based materials that serve as a reference for our research, or even for the learners. But even though it provides a lot of resources, it takes a lot of time spent to look and browse each prospective book. Because of this, Southern College University and its staff tried to develop a project which involves the use of mobile technology for audio format. They tried to convert these different text based materials into audio format and into different languages, in order to speed up research. In just a click, you could already have the necessary data. Even though it is beneficial, in some ways, they tried to ask for some opinion. Some said words are too small to read the way it was read is not clear. Some of the necessary data are missing. Others said they still prefer to read the textual per se rather than using the audio format. Because of these drawbacks, the staff tried to improve and innovate this kind of project in order to accommodate the different comments and will give more benefits to the users. Audio format using mobile technology is really an effective way for learners, to expand their knowledge especially in foreign language. This will also help those disabled person especially the blinds that really rely on their hearing senses in order to be nurtured and develop their own capabilities. Wallin, M, Kelly, K & McGinley, A 2012, ââ¬ËUsing mobile technology to deliver information in audio format: learning by listeningââ¬â¢) Technology may give us a lot of benefits but it has a lot of limitations. We should be able to weigh every circumstances, whatever is more important and be able to change these limitations into a more beneficial and effective aspects. This study seeks to develop a mobile based application that would help the user learning basic Japanese language through the use of auditory learning because learning Japanese language is not that easy. Reading and visual learning is not enough, userââ¬â¢s need to have an extra means of learning. Audio learning helps users to learn the right pronunciation and accent. This study aims to develop a mobile based application that would help the user learn basic Japanese language with auditory learning to increase learning experience not just the basic form of reading, visual learning and pronouncing it but also helping the user to have better understand and have the right way of pronunciation of words. The researchers come up with these specific objectives, 1. ) To be able to promote another means, in order to develop learning aspect. 2. ) To be able to develop the comprehension of individuals in Japanese language in a faster way. 3. ) To determine the feasibility of this kind of technology as teaching aid. 4. ) To enable technology specifically this audio format be contribute to the growth of individual through Japanese language. Procedure To achieve certain objectives, the researchers should have the right approach. First objective is to be able to promote another means, in order to develop learning aspect, basically the key concept of technology is innovation and so the researcherââ¬â¢s came up with the idea to use audio format in order to improve the way learning is conducted, through this, education will be easier. This could be accomplished through the mobile based application which will be the end result of this project. The application will be the primary tool in order to conduct learning by converting the users input which is English words to Japanese language. The second objective is to be able to develop the comprehension of individuals in Japanese language in a faster way. Comprehension development is brought about by the personââ¬â¢s interest to learn and enrich his or her vocabulary. This could be possibly done in faster way and that is through audio format. Like the gadgets that were attached onto, with just a matter of click, users could learn in an easier way. The third objective is to determine the feasibility of this kind of technology as teaching aid. The researchers are challenged to find out the viability of using this technology in conducting learning. This will also assist us to know the possible drawbacks through opinions, imperfections to correct, problems that may arise and make some adjustments in order to improve and innovate it further for it to be more beneficial to people. The last objective is to enable technology specifically this audio format is contribute to the growth of individual through Japanese language. Nowadays, individuals are looking forward in enriching themselves in order to be competitive and to attain a wholesome growth. Some also has the need to learn and be able to speak different anguages because it is required by their respective jobs, and through the use of audio format, this would be a great help in achieving these kind of situation. When users are now exposing themselves repeatedly with the audio format, little by little, they are familiarizing themselves with how Japanese should sound, resulting to a much better handle on the proper pronunciation, accent and tone. Theyââ¬â¢ll be likely to get used to it and in turn be able to build vocabulary, improve speech, communication skills and generally comprehension.

Compare and contrast Donneââ¬â¢s ââ¬ÅA Valediction: Forbidding Mourningââ¬Â Essay
Donneââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Valediction: Forbidding Mourningâ⬠and Marvellââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠are identical and contradictory in many respects. Although ââ¬Å"A Valedictionâ⬠concentrates on the comfort of love on parting and ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠contemplates about sexual love and the briefness of life, both exemplify characteristics of metaphysical poetry. Metaphysical poetry is about the profound areas of experience, especially about love, romantic and sensual, and, to a lesser extent, about pleasure, learning, and art. Metaphysical poems are brief but intense meditations, characterized by a striking use of wit, irony and wordplay. Beneath this somewhat formal structure is the underlying arrangement of the poemââ¬â¢s argument. In ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠the explicit argument (Marvellââ¬â¢s request that the coy lady yield to his passion) is a background for the more serious argument about the need for pleasure and to live life to the fullest before death. The outward lightness conceals a deep seriousness of intent. This poem finds the pretence of passion used to hang serious reflections on the brevity of happiness, or in other words, the main point of a carpe diem poem. In ââ¬Å"A Valediction: Forbidding Mourningâ⬠the argument is not logically persuasive as Marvellââ¬â¢s poem proved, but the cleverness and subtlety of Donneââ¬â¢s method are diverting in that a lonely woman might be comforted. She cannot change the fact of the lover leaving, but the poem states evidence of the integrity of the love he has professed thus far. The imagery used by the poets can also be applied as a basis for comparing and contrasting. Donne writes in a wide-ranging and obscure method. He did not write for publication, but showed poems to friends whom he supposed to be well read enough to understand these references. Donneââ¬â¢s imagery draws on the new learning of the English renaissance and on topical discoveries and exploration. For example, line 11ââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"But trepidation of the spheresâ⬠is a reference to the spheres of cosmology during the era. With Marvell, imagery is more difficult. Unlike Donne who scatters metaphors freely, Marvell is more selective and sparing. Very often the image is more memorable and striking than the idea it expresses, as with the ââ¬Å"deserts of vast eternityâ⬠, while frequently one finds an idea which cannot be understood except as the image in which Marvell expresses it, as with the ââ¬Å"amorous birds of prey,à rather at once our time devourâ⬠. In any case, similarly with these two poets, the use of the metaphor remains subordinate to the metaphysical argument. Both poets, though they occasionally display their higher learning, write with fairly colloquial voices. However, Marvell exhibits more variety in the voice. The second person is found in ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠. When Donne does this, it is assumed that an intimate address to a real woman is intended. But Marvellââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Coy Mistressâ⬠is obviously absent, a mere excuse for Marvell to examine his real carpe diem subjects, time and the shortness of human happiness. The structure and punctuation in each poem also reveal key differences. The same eight-syllable iambic line is continuously found in ââ¬Å"To His Coy Mistressâ⬠. The vigorousness of the argument appears in the breathless lines. Few are end-stopped, and the lines have the rough power of speech. Donne, on the other hand, carries his argument using four line stanzas in ââ¬Å"A Valediction: Forbidding Mourningâ⬠. Unlike Donne, who is prepared to allow some lack of punctuation (between first and second stanzas and frequently within all the stanzas), Marvellââ¬â¢s stanza here has a near metronomic quality. A punctuation mark at the end of the second line exaggerates the rhyming syllable, which is matched at the end of the stanza. Although discussing different subjects, both poems are examples of metaphysical poetry. Through their different images and styles of writing, Marvell was able to illustrate the carpe diem theme of the shortness of life and living it to the fullest, while Donne expressed the consolation of love on leaving. The authors are able to transmit their messages to the reader through these difference and similarities, serving their literary purpose.
